Pictures that follow have been shot in September of 2015 from the Archaeological Museum of Eleusis. We encourage the devotee of the Goddess to visit Eleusis when he/she will visit Hellas, as in antiquity was a main place for religion and the mysteries. You can find more information on Eleusis to our articles. We suggest Carl Kerrenyi's book and George Mylona's book on Eleusis. Both have been translated in Hellenic.

Demeter, Triptolemus, Persephone

A very big anaglyph stele. Height: 2.2 meters width: 1.55 meters 445 b.C. Left we see Demeter who gives instructions to Triptolemus, prince of Eleusis. Triptolemus learns from the Goddess how to grow cereals (demetriaka in hellenic). On the right side, Persephine holds torches and blesses Triptolemus. Demeter learned the Hellenes how to work with the land, that's why she is the Goddess of agriculture. Persephone is the Goddess who makes the trees grow fruits and nuts. From Hellenes all other nations learnt the agriculture. The adaptation of agriculture was closely connected with the worship of Demeter, in Hellas.

Persephone, Triptolemos, Demeter

The anaglyph is very big. Height: 0.79meters width: 1.24 meters 4rth century b.C. Left we see Persephone holding torches, symbols of chthonic Gods and Goddesses. Triptolemus is sitting in his chariot of winged snakes (chthonic). Demeter gives instructions. Close to Demeter we see a team of her devotees.

Fleeing Maiden or Hekate Propolos 490-480 b.C.

This statue was in the hieri oikia, sacred house. Some people believe that she is Persephone. In her hands she holded torches and she runs, but she also looks back.

Anaglyph stele. Demeter sits and talks with her daughter. Another opinion is that we see Demeter with Hekate. It was found close to larger propylaia. Height: 0.78 meters width: 0.56 meters

This is the most beautiful statue of Her. Height: 18.0 meters 420 b.C. from the school of Agoracritos

This statue was in the entrance of telesterion. People who wanted to be initiated washed their hands from the basin of sacred water that she holded with her hands. Height of the statue: 1.25 meters

Pluton and Persephone

Pluton is laid in a bed and Persephone gives him food to eat. Other followers participate in the feast of the Underworld.
