Samhain Sabbat 2015

I believe that this sabbat is one of the most importants, because in hellenic religion, to honour your ancestors is something that connects you with your roots of your family. Samhain is a celebration for the dead, the spirits of our beloved ones come and visit us in the earth realm and they spend some times with us. All of them? Well, not the souls who have been reincarnated again!

I prepared the altar, putting a white and a black candle too, patchouli incense, heather, pomegranate, apple and cakes. In a piece of paper, I wrote my weaknesses and the circle began. This year, I lost my uncle, my aunt and last year I lost some other relatives too. I liked my uncle, he was a very free spirit. He enjoyed life, but he had a hard life since he was a kid. Anyway...

The circle had began, I evoked Hekate as the Goddess of the crossroads and keyholder of the Underworld, Persephone, the Goddess of Hades and Demeter. I started the Sabbat ceremony according to the tradition I follow. I stopped in a point and I spoke to Demeter, because She has lost Her daughter and the earth is cold again. I talked to Her expressing my honest feelings. Then, I continued the ritual cleansing the candles and blessing the black to destroy the weaknesses that hold me back, like a snake releases its skin that it doesn't need anymore. Very close to Hekate... I prayed to Hekate to help me release the fears, She is really good at this and I think She likes to help Her devotees in their fights against the old habbits which no longer do any good, or they do not have any value in the person's life. Hekate works a lot making a person confront the fears, because they tend to keep him back in the way of Her mysteries. When I did a dedication ritual to Her only, She helped me a lot, deal with some of the negative habbits I had. Hekate's energy is very intense and She is kind determined.

So, back to the ritual... I blessed the white candle calling the spitits of my family and I spent some time speaking to them. I said some things to my grandfather, who I liked a lot, I loved him. When I was a kid, he was teaching me how to work with wood, cement, clay, trees and herbs. He was helping me in everything and I still remember how he spoke to me with many instructions, details how to do things. It was quite intense experience.

Then, I called in the circle the spirits of the creators of Wicca and other well known teachers of Wicca. I spoke to them. In the end, I did the blessings of the offerings, I prayed to Hekate, and I procceeded to the other parts of the circle.

Something for the end. Some people celebrate Samhain with Hekate being a crone. Hekate is not an old woman, she is one of the oldest Goddesses but she is a lady, a young girl. Moreover, She is not connected with any male hunter God.

In this article, I wrote that Hekate likes to work with us overcome our fears. In 1973 film, High Plans Drifter, Clint Eastwood says something very close to our way of thinking...

Sarah Belding: Be careful. You're a man who makes people afraid, and that's dangerous.

The Stranger: It's what people know about themselves inside that makes 'em afraid.
