Offering Cooked Fish

Bourdeto is the most famous fish dish of Corfu Island in Ionian Islands in Hellas. It is made with different sorts of fish such as scorpion fish,mullet or with the fish of your taste cooked in a spicy tomato sauce. Fish and especially mullet was sacred to Goddess Hekate.


  • 1kg mullet fish
  • ½ kg onions chopped fine
  • 2 garlic cloves chopped fine
  • 1 tsp hot red pepper
  • ½ tsp sweet red pepper
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbs tomato puree dissolved in a cup of water
  • 1 cup of olive oil
  • salt
  • parsley


  1. fry the onions in a pan with a cup of olive oil until they become soft
  2. add the garlic and the kinds of pepper
  3. add the tomato puree dissolves in water
  4. add salt
  5. let it boil for 15 minutes
  6. add the fresh fish
  7. simmer for about 30 minutes
  8. serve with parsley chopped fine

Note: Do not stir the pan just shake it gently in a circle otherwise the fish will break into pieces. While cooking add water if needed. If you add too much water, when the fish is cooked, separate the fish form the sauce and let the sauce boil until most of the water is evaporated.
